Okay, it's been well over a year. I know...I know. But I have a good excuse. No, really. I had another child. Well, my wife had another child. But I helped. He's actually just a little over a year old now. Oh yeah, it's a boy by the way. See? I told you I had... Continue Reading →
Celebrations; Monday Night RAW’s highs and lows (and bad, bad writing)
There’s no better wrestling episode to start off my blog in 2019 than this past Monday Night RAW. What an episode it was hyped to be. WWE is well underway toward their biggest pay per view of the year; Wrestlemania, except there has been very little build. Two matches have been the mainstay for Wrestlemania... Continue Reading →
THE WRESTLING CONNOISSEUR: Poisoned Passions; or How WWE Is Repulsing Their Audience
I'd like to think that after so much response from the audiences that WWE would pick up on the backlash and adjust accordingly. I'd like to think that, but I can't. It's impossible. WWE always seems to choose the worst possible outcome. Maybe we have Buddy Murphy to blame? Nah, I think it's a Vince... Continue Reading →
The Importance of “All In”
My good friend and host of the Squard Circle Journal podcast Ringside Ramblings thoughts on the state of indy wrestling and what that means for WWE.
On September 1st, the wrestling world will get to experience the largest independent wrestling show in history. “All In” is scheduled to take place from the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago and is expected to have a crowd of at least ten thousand enthusiastic wrestling fans from all over the world. However, the event has not settled well with everyone. There seems to be a minority of fans who have criticized the event and its success before the event has event occurred. Some fans have proclaimed that All In (and its featured stars) is simply an overhyped production.
Whether the show or the wrestlers involved are “overhyped” is not relevant to the case I’ll be making. The already successful All In marks an important time in history for wrestling fans for a number of reasons. It has nothing to do with whether we think Cody Rhodes is a good wrestler…

Dada…Dammit: Issue 12 – Evicted!
There are very few things in life as throat clenching as receiving a notice that soon you'll be homeless. We received one such notice about a month ago. To set the landscape, we live on the Big Island, Hawai'i. Yep, the one with the active volcano. The active volcano that dropped out and spouted fissures... Continue Reading →
The Wrestling Connoisseur: I Think Raw Gave Me Salmonella
It's not very often that there is such a monumental RAW episode that I have to write specifically about it. Last night's May 21 show started with the typical fanfare. That fanfare entails an awkward Kurt Angle with bad posture giving a little speech. Of course, it was interrupted by the ever villainous Stephanie McMahon.... Continue Reading →
The Wrestling Connoisseur: Marksists And Why The Audience Matters
Here's the problem with the concept of superficiality within the wrestling business. Despite the aspects of a wrestler's look, whether it's a muscular build or breast implants or what-have-you, superficiality does not necessarily mean more fans. When we talk about superficiality in wrestling it's very speculative. What is beauty anyway? It's like a coworker talking... Continue Reading →
Dada…Dammit: Issue 11- EMERGENCY!
Okay, well, it wasn't an emergency to get this post up. Maybe it's been awhile. Most of my time has been focused on two things: family and my novel. The novel is another post for another time, but family...ahhhh, family. More specifically I'd like to talk about family emergencies. You know, the ones that leave you with... Continue Reading →
Creativity Feedback; or the Artistic Closed Loop
How many people have experienced writer's block? A show of hands, please. None of you are alone. And it's not just writers either. All creative people suffer blocks. Some people swear by particular ideas to fix those blocks whether it be making coffee or write while...sleeping. If I could master that then I could possibly... Continue Reading →
The Wrestling Connoisseur: One Good Turn Deserves Another
From my column on Inside Pulse, September 2017. Today’s landscape of WWE’s RAW and Smackdown are a bit perplexing. The plethora of talent on both shows is top tier, but the writing and creative aspect are lacking, as usual. WWE is often hit or miss in that department. Characters often fall flat with a... The Wrestling Connoisseur: Fixing Women’s Wrestling, 205, and Anything Not Cena/Orton/Reigns
This is my post from Inside Pulse, July 2017. WWE is notorious for only paying attention to their top tier of wrestlers. Lately, if your name isn’t John Cena, Randy Orton, or Roman Reigns, chances are you aren’t even on the radar. Take for instance the recent release of A+ wrestler-or should I say... Continue Reading →
The Wrestling Connoisseur: ‘Tween the Ropes, Is WWE Too Big To Fail?
This is my article from Inside Pulse from July 10, 2017. WWE has a problem. I know, just one? I often write about WWE because they’re a wrestling juggernaut. Unfortunately every time I watch WWE programming I hear Bernie Sanders in my head, “Too big to fail!” But WWE is failing, at least... Continue Reading →
